This sale is for a very good condition Mamiya 645 Pro AE Prism Finder FE401, in good working order, suitable for the Mamiya 645 Super, Pro and ProTL cameras. It is supplied complete without the eyecup, as shown.
This prism has only normal minor signs of use – but the outer case is damaged (cracked) and held together with gaffer tape (see photos). Despite this the metering works accurately. There is obvious loss of the paint markings on the AE compensation dial. These can easily be added/repainted – even Tippex would do the job. The original markings are just about visible if you look very carefully. There is one problem however. The A/S Average/Spot meter selection knob doesn’t do anything. The prism is always working in the middle A/S mode where average or spot metering is selected automatically by the prism; you cannot manually select Average or Spot. Seeing the the A/S auto selection mode gives the best results 99% of the time anyway, this is not really a major problem. It is what I almost always use with my AE prism on my 645 Pro. Please note that no rubber eyecup is included with this prism.
It is very hard to find in these finders now; they seem to be getting really scarce so grab this one while you can. Please note that you cannot use it with any of the older Mamiya 645 cameras – the M645, M645J or M645 1000S. This one is pretty battered but works as it should (in A/S mode); a real bargain for someone.
Instructions for this prism can of course be downloaded from this website.
